Originally from New York City, Mrs. Rita Brown made her way to Tallahassee in 2003. Just three years into her Tallahassee residency, Mrs. Brown founded the Brownsville Preparatory Institute, LLC., with the mission of educating and inspiring children to achieve the top of their potential.

While in New York, Ms. Brown witnessed disparities in her daughter and son’s educational experience; thus, she decided to homeschool her children even though she owned and operated the Respass Beauty Supply, Inc, and Nail Doctors Plus Salon. In homeschooling teaching her own children, Mrs. Brown discovered her love of teaching children.

She started the Brownsville Child Learning Center in 2003. Brownsville Preparatory Institute was born in 2006 with the help of her son in law Patrick Charles. In 2012, Mrs. Brown became afflicted with end stage renal failure, she continued to forge forward  and maintain the high standards of BPI. Her son, Tony donated his kidney to her while in the care of her other children, Atira and Ameer. BPI provides Summer Camps, tutoring and consulting through Think Actually, LLC, her daughter’s Dr. Atira Charles’ company.
